Christian Bale in a Remake of Oldboy?

Ji-tae Yu in Oldboy (2003) Movie ImageChristian Bale has a clean slate after Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”, apparently because he has yet to decide what he wants to do next, despite rumors having him attached to everything from a remake of “A Star is Born” by Clint Eastwood (and co-starring Beyonce) to Darren Aronofsky’s epic-in-the-making “Noah”.

According to Variety, though, another film that Bale may have his eyes on is the lead in Mandate Pictures’ upcoming remake of “Oldboy”, which has already attached Spike Lee as its director.

In “Oldboy”, an innocent man is snatched off the streets and locked away in a prison cell for 15 years without explanation. He is eventually released, after which he goes on a killing spree to find the people responsible for his captivity. He gets him from a spunky sushi chef and able assistance from a variety of sharp and hard objects with which to beat people in the face with.

Another film hoping to land Bale’s services is “Gold” by Michael Mann, but come on, that movie, along with the other two, don’t hold a candle to how awesome a remake of “Oldboy” could potentially be with the crazed Bale in front of the camera. This is the star of “American Psycho”, you’ll recall.

Someone give this man a hammer!

This is the first actor rumored to be attached to this remake that doesn’t make me cringe.

While I am totally against a remake of Oldboy I must admit that I kinda like the thought of Bale as Oh Dae-Su (the main character). However, the pics attched to this article are a bit misleading. The asian fellow at the top with the gun to his dome is Woo-Jin (the antagonist). I could see Bale in either role really. Although I’d rather him in the role of the protagonist, Oh DAe-Su. I also like Eric Banna, Thomas Jane or Jeffrey Dean Morgan for that role. I could see Jared Leto, Timothy Olyphant or Patrick Wilson as Woo-Jin.
