The boys will be back … at least for one more year.
Cinemax has greenlighted a fourth and final season of their hit action series “Strike Back”, when means Stonebridge and Scott will be shooting up bad guys for at least one more year in another ten-episode season before calling it quits for good.
The show, which is the second incarnation of the Brit series of the same name starring “The Walking Dead’s” Andrew Lincoln, stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester as ace commandos who hop around the globe in order to stop various terrorist threats. By the way, the Andrew Lincoln version is currently airing on Cinemax as “Strike Back: Origins”, a prequel mini-series to “Strike Back”.
No plot for the final season, only that it will shoot in Asia and Europe for 2014.
“Strike Back” really put Cinemax on the map as a viable premium cable network known for more than just T&A. As anyone growing up in the ’90s and early ’00s can tell you, Cinemax used to be known as Skinemax for their titillating fare. Nowadays, you can find great stuff like “Strike Back”, “Banshee”, and “Hunted” — great action shows with plenty of T&A. Hey, there’s no point in making yourself a premium cable if you can’t throw in a bit of gratuitous sex and violence, right?
Of the show’s two stars, Sullivan Stapleton is blowing up in Hollywood, with roles in the upcoming “300: Rise of an Empire”, and is being mentioned on a variety of big movie shortlists.
The third season of “Strike Back” just wrapped, and co-starred Rhona Mitra.
