Clark Gregg may or may not know how his agent Phil Coulson is resurrected in ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” after his supposed death in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”. Okay, he definitely knows. To hear him tell it, Whedon told him how he comes back, though we, the TV audience, won’t know the full story for a while.
Speaking to EW about his upcoming show, Gregg said this about his character’s death and resurrection:
I thought they were pranking me a little bit because there was so much blood on the set of The Avengers. I kept waiting to see, are we going to shoot a version where [Loki] misses? And they didn’t, so I was really surprised to get that call and I wanted to make sure it didn’t do anything to undermine what we achieved there and when [writer-director Joss Whedon] explained the mystery and how they planned to deal with it, with Agent Coulson being around, I was very sold. He’s back. He’s thinks he knows how he’s back. We’ll have to see.
According to Gregg, we’ll learn a bit about Coulson’s return in the pilot, but won’t be getting the full skinny right away. I suspect that’ll be one of the show’s first season mysteries — how he’s back from the dead.
As for the show itself:
Agent Coulson represents the people who don’t have superpowers, the guys who actually can be killed — or at least seem to be and yet come back sometimes … Marvel has such a lock on how to do really incredibly visual affects and stunts that we’ve got stuff on our show that I just don’t think we’ve seen on TV before.
“Agents of SHIELD”, which co-stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennett, and Brett Dalton, airs on ABC this Fall.
Until then, get a load of the extended trailer in case you still can’t get enough of it yet. The trailer gets funnier every time I see it, which, yes, is a new one for me:
