Clip: Liv Tyler is Terrified in The Strangers

Horror Movie News, The Strangers (2008) Movie — By Nix on May 6, 2008

Supposedly based on a true story, “The Strangers” stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple that is seemingly randomly selected to be victimized by a small group of strangers wearing funky masks, played by Kip Weeks and Gemma Ward, and one more would-be killer. Here’s a clip from the movie that was released on Myspace. The film was written and directed by first-timer Bryan Bertino, a former actor and, according to IMDB.com, gaffer. Wow, that’s some promotion there, Bryan.

After returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night. What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks. The couple find themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.

Don’t answer the door May 30, 2008.

I don’t think they ever said what the true story it’s based on is. At least that’s what I read.

I watched it just last night….it was OKAY. It wasn’t the best I’ve seen, it wasn’t the worst. This movie relied highly on surprise and loud noises. I personally felt the middle was way too drawn out, and I believe this could have been done a lot better. As for the masks, when my cousin and I saw them, we were laughing so loud the other members in the audience ssh(ed) us. But it was Okay, I’ll give it that.

Firstly, the year 2005 stated in the opening of the film has nothing to do with the storyline. The movie is inspired by an event from the director Bryan Bertino’s childhood, among other things. A stranger came to his home asking for someone who did not live there. Later, he found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been burglarized. With that memory in mind, Bertino created this, his debut screenplay. The screenplay is also inspired by the events of the Charles Manson murders. The core of the story is based on the murders that took place in Cabin #28 at Keddie Resort, in the remote township of Keddie, CA, where three people were found tied up, stabbed, bludgeoned by a hammer. (A fourth victim who’d been at the site was found some months later, the body dumped 90 miles away.)[1]
