“Book of Blood” is based on a Clive Barker story and is produced by the horror master, so right away you know what to expect: blood, barely hidden S&M, torture, and more torture. And the trailer for “Book of Blood” certainly doesn’t go easy on the gore, which features a guy who may or may not be psychic who can see “highways of the dead” (or somesuch) who ends up getting words carved on his body which people then want to slice off. Or something. It’s all very weird and gory and bloody and very Clive Barker-ish, and as such will probably only appeal to fans of the horror writer. I doubt Joe Schmoe will even go near this thing once they catch a glimpse of the trailer. The again, it’s not as if Clive Barker stories are written for Joe Schmoe, so maybe that point is moot.
The story centers on a paranormal expert who, while investigating a gruesome slaying, finds a house that is at the intersection of “highways” transporting souls to the afterlife.
Starring Jonas Armstrong, Sophie Ward, Paul Blair, Doug Bradley, Simon Bamford, James Watson, Romana Abercromby, and James McAnerney. John Harrison, who once helmed the Sci Fi Channel mega epic “Dune”, directs the whole bloody mess.
Look for this thing on DVD. I can’t see it hitting theaters.
