Clooney and DiCaprio Team up for Political Thriller Farragut North
Farragut North (2008) Movie — By Nix on October 10, 2007
George Clooney just can’t get enough of political thrillers, and now he’s roped in young Leonardo DiCaprio into the arena with “Farragut North”. The film, for which DiCaprio is in negotiations to star and Clooney to direct, is based on the upcoming Broadway play by Beau Willimon. If the two mega Hollywood stars sign on the dotted line, DiCaprio would play a young, idealistic communications director who works for an inspiring, though unorthodox, presidential candidate (re: the cinematic version of Howard Dean). During the campaign, Movie Dean’s career is done in by more seasoned politicos who thrive on poisonous partisan politics, dirty tricks and back-stabbing. You know, all that good stuff politics in America is known for. What, you didn’t know?
More:
Titled after the Washington Metro station that is located near many lobbyists’ offices, the play is loosely based on Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential election campaign, during which Willimon worked for the Democrat.
Willimon, who is adapting his own work, held readings of the play during the summer in which Jake Gyllenhaal participated. The play, which Mike Nichols is slated to direct, is set to open in fall 2008, just before the presidential election.
If George Clooney is really honest in the film, he’ll realize that much of the back stabbing that did Howard Dean in came from his fellow Democrats, who literally gutted him like a fish when the political novice made mistake after mistake during his Presidential run.
