Cloverfield Update: Monsters, Monsters, and More Monsters

By Nix | August 18, 2007 (3:05 pm)

So what’s up with this “Cloverfield” stuff? We haven’t heard much from the Abrams camp ever since the “Cloverfield” ending was revealed earlier this month (Ooops). Plus, the 1-18-08 site hasn’t been updated for a while. Here’s the latest news on “Cloverfield”: there is news that there won’t be just one monster stomping New York, there will be one monster and a lot of smaller, “raptor-like” ones chasing our heroes through the streets. That’s the rumor, anyway. Read on.

Here’s Dread Central’s news on “Cloverfield”:

It’s not Godzilla or Voltron (duh) or even Cthulu; anyone expecting there to be some sort of elaborately detailed backstory may be in for a disappointment. Expect an old-fashioned monster movie retold in a very modern Blair Witch sort of way - but with a twist. You see that giant monster that emerges from the ocean to begin laying waste to New York City … it didn’t come alone.

According to “Mr. Slusho”, much of the movie will revolve around the characters fleeing for their lives, not from the big one stomping the city, but from the “raptor-like” smaller versions hunting them down.

If so, that would make sense. Word from the start has been that this would not be a mega-budget movie and the digital effects work needed for a giant monster trashing New York City would no doubt cost a heck of a lot more than street level action of people being chased by smaller monsters. This would also seem to jive with some of the set footage that’s shown up online … it’s just too bad it sounds so much like the Emmerich Godzilla, however.

I still think it’s a remake of “The Host”…

As i was watching a preview of the movie online, there was one totaly important part that caught me when they showed them at the base with a woman looking like she was beaten up and they keep on saying that she has been bitten so i did some research on it and i found out that the monster did not come alone, no, that is true but what is not true is that it is not raptors that come with it, it is parasites that get into people and change them because i saw something happen to her when they took her behind the curtain and i could hear something that sounded like it was trying to get out.

Well, if you think about it, The host was a totaly different movie, i mean sure it has a monster come out of the river but it is in different in size and it takes place in Japan and i watched the trailer and it did nothing to the buildings and the ground is not shaking.

oh, to add one more thing, it came out 2 years ago so they couldn’t of made the Cloverfield a remake of the host and they usually name the movies the same name of the movie they are remaking so it can’t be the remake of the host.

today at 9:15 i went to see cloverfield and it was the best movie ever and you might be wondering what the monster looks like well , i dont have a picture to show you sorry. but what i can tell you is that the monster look’s like godzilla and the movie alien gone wrong. And that during its destruction of new york city the monster dropped these spider like alien type creatures on to the streets on new york city that like attack the people on the streets like a pack of wolves at a dead animal and that when the parisites bite you you are infested with some sort of thing that makes your whole body explode and that the monster never gets killed of that the city of new york will the make it through the destruction or that the people in the city will make it out ALIVE. but the monster is so COOL.

The last time I watched “The Host” it was set in Korea. Are you telling me the Japanese have also made a remake? Wow thats amazing.

This movie was cool. The best part was seeing my friend (Who says he’s not afraid of everything) run out of the theaters to use the bathroom 4 times when he drank and ate just as much as me and I didn’t even use the bathroom. Oh… I’ll believe that when it’s true.
