This is interesting. Direct-to-DVD movies are notorious for shooting two movies at once to save on production costs, but I’ve never heard of big-budget Hollywood movies doing the same thing. But apparently the writing/directing duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are, as they’ll be shooting the sequel to Jason Statham’s “Crank” (to be called “Crank 2: High Voltage”) and their sci-fi movie starring Gerard Butler, “The Game”, in the back-to-back fashion, or so says Variety. As has been mentioned already, the boys will continuing “Crank 2″ after the events of “Crank”, and pretending like a fall from a helicopter didn’t kill their leading man Chev Chelios and continue with business as usual.

In “Crank 2″, Chev faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.

Yup, it’s just as ludicrous as the first, and will probably be ten times as fun. Remember, sequels always has to be bigger, louder, and twice the bodycount!

“The Game” is a high-concept thriller set in a dystopian future. Amber Valletta, Logan Lerman, Alison Lohman, John Leguizamo, Johnny Whitworth, Zoe Bell and Kyra Sedgwick round out the cast, which includes star Gerard Butler. Principal photography begins Nov. 5 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Expect both films in 2009.
