Crazy Rumor of the Day: Rebooting the Fantastic Four

Apparently making more than $600 million in combined box office doesn’t really sit well with 20th Century Fox, who rumor has it is pondering a reboot of their “Fantastic Four” franchise. There have been two movies so far, with the first one released on 2005, and starred Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffold, and the series’ one saving grace, Chris Evans as the wise-cracking Human Torch.

Says IESB:

IESB’s has heard word around town is Fantastic Four over at 20th Century Fox is gearing up for a reboot.

The two films previously released never really caught on with the fans and the studio is reportedly looking to completely retool, recast and recrew the franchise. This means no Tim Story, no Iaon, no Julian (thank the maker, he never sat well with me as Dr. Doom), no Chris, no Chiklis and no Jessica.

The idea is to make the reboot “less bubble gum” and more “Iron Man” — i.e. funny, but also serious at times. I can’t recall if the two Fantastic Four movies were ever serious, although I did seriously consider killing myself while watching Jessica Alba pretending to play a brilliant scientist. Holy God did that casting not work out or what?

Anyways, dear readers, I would like to tell you that this is all BS and has no shred of truth to it, but this is Hollywood we’re talking about. No one questioned rebooting “The Hulk” at all, and they’re doing the same with “Daredevil”. And considering the attention span of today’s moviegoing public, I’m pretty sure selling a “Fantastic Four” reboot to the latest cadre of MTV zombies will be a cinch.

Below: Glasses = brains. Oh, Hollywood, you’re so clever!

I personally enjoyed the films, even though the dr doom character portrayed was a little weak it was still entertaining nonetheless. I believe a reboot is not needed. The actors involved do a good job as is. The human torch and the thing are what make the movie especially johnnie (at least in my opinion).

Jessica Alba is a “Pretty Face” not a good actress. They made the FF movies into boring “Love Stories” about Reed and Sue. You cant cut corners when making a comic to film adaptation. Take the “Daredevil” movie in which a young, blind Matt Murdoch learn martial arts from “The Internet”, which is impossible as we all know. I hope this time thay say true to the comic books vision this time
