Criss Angel to Star in Mandrake the Magician Movie

I don’t know what’s up with Criss Angel, or how someone with such a penchant for walking around without his shirt showing off his abs got into magic. I always thought only dorks with no social life got into magic while in High School. You know, cause they don’t have any one to hang out with. Anyways, in a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Angel talked about signing on to star in the recently announced movie version of the comic book character Mandrake, a magician who, um, fights crime. I think.
Says the Mindfreak about the role:
The reviews seemed to be pretty good on my acting, so I’ve just signed on to do a movie which I’ll be shooting at the end of this year called Mandrake. Which is based on the comic book strip. It’s gonna kind of be like a kind of cool realm of The Crow but different of Mandrake the magician coming to life. I’m designing and creating the visual effects for that, as well as going to be acting in it. So that’s a very exciting prospect that I’m looking forward to do.
You know, I’ve seen some pictures of Mandrake (below), and somehow I don’t get any “The Crow” vibes from it.
He goes on:
I know that the Mandrake project really gets it. Being involved from the beginning in the creation of the script, and of the characters and effects, really gives me an opportunity to work with the director to make sure that it’s really seamless with how they coexist and work hand in hand, and how one supports the other and it’s not contrived and it’s not cheesy. So, I’m really excited about Mandrake and I’m hoping that they’ll get it right better than anyone’s gotten it yet.
So there you go. Criss Angel, the guy who stars in the A&E magic show “Mindfreak”, is your new Mandrake.
I wonder how he’s gonna explain the top hat and funky wardrobe, though…

Instead of Angel, David Blaine should be the one. His magics are better and unexplainable and he’s already got a moustache.
No! I totally disagree with you Shubhatosh, criss angel is WAYYYYYYY better that blaine and unlike david, criss doesnt use old magic tricks created by other magicians, and he already has had experience in acting. criss angel creates all of his own, very original, illusions.
First thanks a lot for replying. There were two reasons why I said what I said.
1. I have read few of the Mandrake comics and I think Blaine has slight resemblance with Mandrake: height, appearance and all.
2. Check on Youtube and you will find many have posted video comments on Angle being a fake but nothing about Blaine.
hey criss is not fake and blaine uses stupid magic that u can buy in magic shops criss is so much better blaine did the bite a quarter trick and that is freakin easy criss does pro magic blaine is one of the worst magicians
It always amazes me how people will comment on something they obviously know nothing about. Criss Angel will play Mandrake’s father with the aid of make-up. At least, that’s what Criss said on the Larry King show. He did not say however, who will play Mandrake. But I’m sure that the same people who jumped to the conclusion that Criss will play Mandrake will jump to another conclusion and imagine some one.
When I was a kid, Mandrake was not only a comic strip, but also a radio show and I belonged to the Mandrake the Magician Club. I kept hoping they would make a movie about him and I felt there was only one actor who could play him and do him justice. Basil Rathbone. But, I guess none of the overpaid Hollywood moguls had as much imagination as I had.
Basil Rathbone would have been superb as Mandrake the Magician.
well criss was goin play mandrake at first but then because of his new show believe it would take up too much time so he went for a smaller role
david blaine actually got his tricks from criss angel because criss claims that when he performed that big bubble trick, david saw him and tried to do the same thing.
i KNOW criss will do very well in this movie!!

I’m a Criss Angel fan, but I can’t really see Criss playing as Mandrake lol. Though I admit it would be rather interesting to see he is indeed going to play Mandrake, though I thought they said someone else was going to play Mandrake. Can’t remember. Anyway, I’m excited to see how it will turn out when or if it does come out.
Man, Criss Angel is so fine espicially if he is in a movie!! Can’t wait to see it!!;)

For starters, I’m both a Loayl and a David Blaine fan. Criss needs to chill and realize that he is NOT the hottest shit in the world, and the girl who wrote this really needs to get a life. I’m a magician, illusionist, whatever, and I have a hell of a lot to do in a day, not to mention friends. Criss is playing Mandrake’s father, by the way. It’s why he had the nasty-ass beard.

Have you not seen mindfreak lately criss has a full size beard, I used to like david blain untill i started watching mindfreak criss levitates way better than david blain.
