Cruise and Raimi Team Up for Sleeper

Comic Book Movie News, Sleeper Movie — By Nix on August 19, 2008

Tom Cruise is so gosh darn tired of losing jobs to chicks and getting kicked in the rear by the press, that all he wants to do is go to sleep. In a movie called “Sleeper”, of course! Yeah, yeah, I know, that was dumb, but hey, it’s almost 2 in the morning as I write this, so whatever, man. Anyways, Tom Cruise is teaming up with Sam Raimi (who seems to be associating himself with a gazillion projects nowadays for whatever reason) to adapt a live-action version of the Marvel/Wildstorm comic book “Sleeper”. The premise sounds pretty cool, so maybe this could be the new “Mission Impossible” the Cruister is looking for to revive his sagging movie career.

Yahoo! News via Reuters has more:

With filmmaker Sam Raimi, the actor is setting up “Sleeper” as a feature project at Warner Bros. Cruise is loosely attached to star in the adaptation of the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic, which Raimi would produce with his Star Road Entertainment partner Josh Donen.

Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, “Sleeper,” which ran from 2003 through 2005, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain. An intelligence agency places him undercover in a villainous organization and falls for Miss Misery, a member of the group.

I haven’t even heard of the comic book before, but it sure looks like it could make for a good Tom Cruise action movie. And hey, maybe he can get Angelina Jolie to play Miss Misery! Or maybe not…
