Daniel Craig Turned Down Thor Movie

Comic Book Movie News, Thor (2011) Movie — By Nix on October 22, 2008

So the interesting news from comic book land is that Daniel Craig, the latest James Bond, was actually offered the role of Thor by Marvel Studios, but has turned it down. As we know by now, Shakespearean guy Kenneth Branagh, in one of those WTF moments, has been hired to direct the live-action movie of the Thunder God. I suspect hiring Branagh was a calculated move by Marvel, much like hiring a critically acclaim director like Jon Favreau for “Iron Man”. But really, Kenneth Friggin Branagh? Seriously, Marvel? Anyways, here’s that bit of news about Craig turning down Thor.

More:

IESB asked if Craig was interested in doing something a little different character-wise, like Thor?

Craig said no, he turned it down and laughed about it.

Sanchez continued, “seriously, I heard the folks over at Marvel had you on a short list to be Thor.”

Craig said yes they [Marvel] did approach him but he turned it down. He added jokingly, it would have been too much of a power trip, both Bond and Thor, and running around with long hair and a hammer.

It’s probably for the best. Craig is an excellent actor, and can brood with the best of them, not to mention the accent would work on the character. But let’s face it, he’s just not all that physically imposing of a figure. But who is? We’re talking about a God here, after all. With a big friggin hammer, to boot.

Below: It’s Hammer time.

John Cena should play Thor he has the chin, Plus his arms look like Thors. And he has a commanding voice

God please no more movie-gone wrestlers, I don’t want another “Mr. Nanny”.

I couldn’t agree more. I like Cena but the guy can’t act.

i think John Cena has the body of Thor but not the look of the character, i hate to say this but i think it should be Triple H, i think he’s perfect for the character, not only the look, but the physique as well, as far as acting, i have seen him on Blade 3 Trinity, and he was pretty good, not the best but good so in my opinion, it should be him, i dont see anyone else that can portray Thor.

i personally think vladimir kulich would make an excellent thor, although he is up there in age. he was buliwf on the 13th warrior(basically played beowulf), and the swede on smokin’ aces.

Bill- I agree, vladimir kulich, was my first thought when I heard that they were going to make Thor. He has the right presence.

  • Justin says:

the only actor who’s name i have heard who makes any real sense is Kevin McKidd. He’s a big guy, though admittedly not 6′6″. more importantly he is a very good actor and has the physique. this movie cannot be carried by a wrestler. i have seen enough of the triple h guy to be certain he would not be able to carry a movie of this magnitude. McKidd was brilliant on Rome, and every other actor they have in these roles is short, so height should not be a problem.
I could see Karl Urban, though that is a bit of a stretch. and if anyone has seen True Blood, check out Alexander Skarsgard.

  • Jackie Chan AJF says:

Brad Pitt should be Thor if he can get back to the way he was in Troy…Loki should be played by a buff Johnny Depp

I think Colin Ferrel should play Thor and not John Cena

    GERAD BUTLER FOR THOR

  • Matthijs says:

What about Alexander Skarsgard, I think he can play the part. I think he fits the profile better than Collin Ferrel, Brad Pitt etc Thor ain’t tiny, so why not get a giant Swede.
