Danny Boyle Planning to Direct 28 Months Later After All?

Updated: The news apparently came from Boyle himself. Dread Central has updated their post with this:

The director indicated to a good friend of our site that “there’s another 28 Days Later in the works.” When asked if the title would be 28 Months Later, Boyle replied “In theory, yes.” Immediately the next question was if he’d be producing, to which Boyle responded, “Actually I want to direct it.” There you have it, kids. From the horse’s mouth.

The last we heard on the “28 Months Later” (aka “28 Days Later Part Three”) front was writer Alex Garland letting everyone know that he doesn’t think a sequel is forthcoming anytime soon. Apparently that’s news to the boys at Dread Central, who got word that Danny Boyle, the man who directed the first “28 Days Later”, is planning on returning to the franchise.

Of course, Dread doesn’t say how they came about this information, just that they’ve “learned” Boyle was planning a return. They promise more news in the future, so we shall see how solid this is.

This isn’t completely out of the blue news, though. Boyle himself has said a couple of years ago that he has some ideas for a third “28 Weeks Later” movie. Of course, that was back in 2008, and nothing since.

It goes without saying: take this with a grain of salt for now. Tomorrow might be different… or not.

The last time we visited the “28 Days Later” world, zombies had broken out of the UK and had spread into the rest of Europe at the end of the first sequel, “28 Weeks Later”. The rest of the world, 28 months later (if they continue with the conceit, that is), seems a given.
