Danny Boyle Still Considering 28 Weeks Later Sequel
28 Months Later Movie, Horror Movie News — By Nix on September 11, 2008 |
I’ll admit it — I thought Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later” was a derivative horror movie that aped Romero’s Dead movies way too closely for my taste, including its entire Third Act with the soldiers in the mansion, which was pretty much a “Day of the Dead” retread without the proper crediting. And so, yeah, I wasn’t exactly sad when Boyle didn’t come back for “28 Weeks Later,” but after seeing how that one turned out under someone else’s direction, I kinda wished he had done the sequel. Boyle would have brought more humanity to the story; as it stands, “28 Weeks Later” was a frenzied series of zombie bloodletting, without any real shred of humanity to it beyond the superficial, something Boyle’s movie, despite all its faults, actually had.
Boyle has previously made it clear that he would like to do another “28″ movie, and spoke about that desire a while back. Now, he’s told MTV the same thing again, and this time there seems to be actual movement on the project:
“There’s a bit of discussion going on about it at the moment… I have an idea for it [but] I’ve got to present it and see what people think really because it might be silly really.”
If they plan on doing a third movie, there’s only one way to go — full-on worldwide apocalypse. A Europe full of the infected would be great fun, as long as they don’t retread the previous two movies — i.e. set up an idyllic situation that goes bad. Forget about the foreplay, just jump right into the fun.
Below: Subtlety has never been a major strength of the “28″ movies…

Nix, seriously, why do you hate movies?
I loved both movies do to the fact that it expressed the whole zombie concept as realistic as possible.
