Danny Woodburn Will Play Splinter in Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles Reboot

Danny WoodburnHe’s officially billed as Danny Woodburn, but to me he’ll always be Carl in UPN’s short-lived “X-Files” rip-off “Special Unit 2″, the show that proved you can be as generic and unoriginal as possible just as long as it’s damn entertaining. Of course, Woodburn has also starred in other shows, like “Seinfeld” and was recently one of the dwarfs in Tarsem Singh’s “Mirror Mirror”.

Woodburn joins the foursome of Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard and Pete Ploszek as mutated superheroes tasked with saving the world in the Michael Bay-produced, Jonathan Liebesman-directed film. Woodburn will play Splinter, the ninja turtles’ master, a rat that somehow became a giant half-human/half-rat after getting doused with the same chemicals that turned the turtles into ninja turtles.

Or at least, that was the original origins of the characters. Who the hell knows what Michael Bay and company have up their sleeves for the reboot. I hear they’re aliens or sumtin’.

The four turtles are expected to be realized through mo-cap technology, though it’s unclear how Woodburn would play Splinter.

Megan Fox is currently playing the turtles’ human character, spunky news reporter April O’Neil, with Will Arnett also recently added in an undisclosed role.

The “Ninja Turtles” kick into theaters June 6, 2014.
