If Internet scuttlebutt is to be believed, “Game of Thrones'” actor Jason Momoa had the role of Drax The Destroyer in Marvel Studio’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and all he had to do was sign on the dotted line. Turns out, he might not have wanted the role enough because the trades are now reporting that former wrestler turned actor Dave Bautista (last seen in “The Man with the Iron Fists”) has officially nabbed the role.
According to THR, “Guardians of the Galaxy’s” storyline will follow “Peter Quill/Star-Lord, a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone want.”
Bautista would play Drax, “a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos”, who you may recall as the big ugly purple guy at the end of “The Avengers”.
Bautista becomes only the second actor to be cast in “Guardians”, joining “Zero Dark Thirty’s” Chris Pratt, who was previously tapped to play Peter Quill/Star Lord in the film.
James Gunn will direct the film, which is currently scheduled for 2014, just in time to launch Marvel’s very ambitious trek into outer space with more cosmic-inclined properties that will include “Guardians” and “Thor”, and possibly, if recent rumors prove correct, a “Nova”-themed movie.
