David O. Russell has directed only one movie that I’ve seen, the George Clooney Gulf War flick “Three Kings”. It was pretty good, but it wasn’t great. I hear tell his 1996 “Flirting with Disaster” was pretty good, too, but I’ve never seen that, so I can’t say. Now there are rumors that Russell, who has just come off “The Fighter” with Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, is in line to adapt and direct “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, Seth Grahame-Smith’s flesh-eating take on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” novel.
The project has already nabbed Natalie Portman as its producer and star, and the signing of Russell could mean the studio is anxious to fast-track the picture.
Is it a zombie movie with flesh-eating undead English folk? A period drama and love story with corsets and crumpets and all that other stuff British people eat? A combination of both? How will that work, exactly? I haven’t a clue, but it sure is gonna be fun to find out.
