Just like O.J. Simpson, you can’t keep Death down. He just keeps coming and coming for your ass. And so does David R. Ellis, who last entered snakes on a plane territory with “Snakes on a Plane”, and before that, helmed the great “Final Destination 2″, which is still the best in the entry in my opinion. Now Ellis is back for “Final Destination 4″, and while plot details are not known, it’s a sure bet it’ll involve Death coming to get a bunch of whiny teenagers, with the Final Girl being played by a then-unknown who can act and scream and run and such. You know, like the last two “Final Destination” movies. (The original had a Final Boy for some strange reason.)
Ellis will be directing the fourth installment from a script by Eric Bress, who also wrote “Final Destination 2″. Also, The Hollywood Reporter says that the studio is looking to shoot the latest adventures in killing teens in groovy 3-D.
The “Final Destination” films have been solid performers for New Line since they debuted in 2000. The first film grossed $53.3 million, the 2003 sequel made $46.5 million and the third, released in 2006, collected $54 million. The movies usually are made for at least half that and do well on home video.
There are currently no start date for the film, so my listing it as a 2008 production is a tad optimistic, but let’s just go with it for now.
