Del Toro is Not Afraid of the Dark … the Remake
So you say you’ve got a movie about a kid who is forced to confront the creatures that lurks in the darkness, possibly waiting to eat her in little chunks? Well then, let’s see if Guillermo Del Toro is available! In this case, yes, he is, and so the “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Devil’s Backbone” director has come onboard to produce the remake of “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” for Miramax and the brothers Weinstein. But don’t get too excited, boyos, Del Toro will just be producing. Instead, comic book scribe and artist Troy Nixey (”Only the End of the World Again”) will make his feature film directorial debut with the movie.
THR has more about the movie:
“Dark” centers on a young girl, sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend, who discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.
Del Toro will adapt Nigel McKeand’s original script for the 1973 film with “Mimic” co-writer Matthew Robins, while Michael Falbo will produce for Miramax.
The original, known as “Nightmare” in Europe, was directed by John Newland.
