Denis Leary is Gwen Stacy’s Dad in Spider-Man Reboot

POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU ARE NOT A COMIC BOOK DORK. DO NOT READ ON.

The comedian is in negotiations at the moment, but let’s face it, by the time news like an actor being in negotiations for a movie leaks to the press, it’s usually almost a done deal, or close enough to start bragging about it. Not sure if this is really any big news to brag about, though, since Denis Leary isn’t exactly a big box office draw with the comic book crowd. Though to be fair, I used to eat up his stand-up concerts like candy back in the day.

Leary will play George Stacy, the father of one lovely Gwen Stacy (to be played by the lovely Emma Stone). George is a police Captain who, like most law enforcement, don’t cotton to the web-slinger when he initially appears on the scene. In fact, in comic book lore, ol Captain George’s fate doesn’t end well at all, causing Gwen to hate our arachnid hero, unaware that he’s also her dorky high school beau Peter Parker. Oh, the twisted, complex life of a superhero.

“The Social Network’s” Andrew Garfield will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, who is still in high school when Marc Webb’s reboot begins. Stone is Gwen Stacy, his love interest, while Sally Field will play Aunt May, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, and Rhys Ifan as Curt Connors, aka The Lizard.

Spidey reboots in 2012.

'I'm Denis Leary. I'm so cool, I only need one 'n' in my name.'
