Yup, it’s another bona fide “G.I. Joe” casting: this one comes from Variety, and has Dennis Quaid joining the cast of Stephen Sommers’ action-adventure flick as General Hawk, described as “the grizzled team leader”. Variety also confirms the Channing Tatum as Duke casting, but we already knew that, didn’t we?

More:

Quaid will play General Hawk, the grizzled team leader and Tatum will play Duke Hauser, the lead soldier in the Stephen Sommers-directed film, which is scheduled to shoot next month in L.A. Pic is set for release on Aug. 7, 2009.

Tatum’s character works closely on missions with Ripcord, a team member that will be played by Marlon Wayans. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Said Taghmaoui are also in the ensemble.

More about Hawk from Wikipedia:

Hawk (later General Hawk) is a character from G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, a line of military-themed toys. He appears in the animated series, comic books, toyline and movie.

Hawk is the code name of Major General Clayton M. Abernathy. He is the commander of the G.I. Joe Team. Born in Denver, Colorado, he comes from a wealthy family whose influence enabled him to enroll in West Point where he graduated at the top of his class. He was even able to gain experience in the battlefield in several trouble spots. One description of him is that he is “keenly intelligent and perceptive and quite capable of totally selfless acts in support of his team-mates. An excellent leader!”

Quaid can be seen in the Noam Murro-directed “Smart People” and the Pete Travis-directed thriller “Vantage Point.”

I actually had that action figure! Another great piece of casting for the “Joe” movie, althought I’m still not sure about Tatum as Duke.
