From what I can gather, the upcoming Denzel Washington actioner “Safe House” is a pretty generic action movie, the kind that would normally be shot in some European, former Soviet Bloc country and go direct to DVD and, if they’re lucky, star Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, or possibly a pre-jail Wesley Snipes.
But director Daniel Espinosa’s “Safe House” happens to star two A-listers in Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington, so that means it’s opening on the big screen, and here’s your first look at Washington from the movie, holding a gun, and looking like he’s very pissed off you stole his YMCA gym reservation. (You know, cause he’s wearing gym sweats and such?)
The film co-stars Tim McGraw, Vera Farmiga, Joel Kinnaman, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, and Liam Cunningham, and finds Reynolds playing a junior CIA spook who babysits a safehouse holding Washington, a dangerous former CIA rogue agent, when even more dangerous folks try to kill him. The twosome have to band together to escape and go on the run. That sounds like a plot I’ve seen in a couple of Wesley Snipes movie, to be perfectly honest with you.
“Safe House” opens February 10th, 2012.
Moviefone also has the film’s first poster:
