Denzel Washington’s The Great Debaters Gets a Poster
The Great Debaters (2007) Movie, Videos — By Nix on November 21, 2007 |Denzel Washington’s latest movie, and his second as director, “The Great Debaters” (please, no jokes) gets a poster, and it looks Denzel Washington-rific. Although to be honest, they photoshopped Washington’s face so much on the poster that he kinda looks Asian. But I digress. In the film, Washington will direct himself, playing the real-life Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College in 1935 Texas, who forms the school’s first debate team. I’m guessing there will be a lot of talking in the movie. Either that, or they used baseball bats to debate back in “the day”. I’m going to go with there being a lot of talking.
Inspired by a true story, “The Great Debaters” chronicles the journey of Professor Melvin Tolson, a brilliant but volatile debate team coach who uses the power of words to shape a group of underdog students from a small African American college in the deep south into a historically elite debate team. A controversial figure, Professor Tolson challenged the social mores of the time and was under constant fire for his unconventional and ferocious teaching methods as well as his radical political views.
Starring Denzel Washington, Forest Whitaker, Jurnee Smollett, Nate Parker, Denzel Whitaker, and directed by Denzel Washington.
