Details on Hawkeye’s Apparently Extended Cameo in Thor

So apparently there’s something called “Cinema Con” going on in Vegas right now, and during one of Paramount’s panels, they showed footage from their upcoming “Thor”. Which, as it turns out, features a very notable cameo (an extended cameo, even) by one Jeremy Renner, playing Hawkeye in the movie. CinemaBlend‘s people were there, and gave this report:

Jeremy Renner is playing Hawkeye in Avengers but now we know that the first place you’ll see the character is in Thor this summer. The scene we saw featured Renner as Hawkeye, working with the infamous Agent Coulson, played as he was in the Iron Man movies, by Clark Gregg. The scene features Hawkeye using his famous bow and arrow and he has multiple lines, so while we’re talking about something a little more than a momentary cameo, there’s no way to know if his involvement will go any further than that one scene.

Now before you get all cranky and start screaming SPOILERS, let me just say this: if Paramount had no plans to make this public, they wouldn’t have, you know, SHOWN IT TO THE MASSES at a movie convention.

So there you have it: Renner appears in costume as Hawkeye (we assume he’s in costume since the report says “as Hawkeye” and not “as Clint Barton”) in “Thor”, and he even uses his “famous bow and arrow” in the scene.

“Thor” takes aim May 5, 2011.

    Sounds good to me!!!

Awsome! I can’t wait for the Thor movie. It looks like it will be great from all of the promotional material and now with the news of a substantial cameo by Renner as Hawkeye it ups the game that much more. The next question is what will the after credits scene hold if Renner’s Hawkeye is already in the body of the film? And what other cameos and easter eggs will be included? The anticipation is killing me!

It amazes me that it took this long for a studio to realize the value of the easter eggs or slight nods to the comics to make the fans happy. A movie goer will see a movie and then move on… a fan will see it more than once and then turn around to buy the DVD.
