Die Hard Tops Best Action Movie Ever List

By Nix | June 15, 2007 (1:08 pm)

Just in time for the fourth entry into the never say die franchise (har har, get it?), 1988’s “Die Hard” was voted by the editors and writers of Entertainment Weekly as the Best Action Movie Ever. (Gee, I wonder if some money changed hands there…) Now I think “Die Hard” was a pretty damn good action movie. It was so good, in fact, that it spawn a slew of imitators to this day. But is it the BEST action movie EVER? I don’t know about that. I’m more inclined to give that honor to James Cameron’s “Aliens”, which came in second place. Continue on for the rest of the list…

At #3 was “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, which continues to add to my bemusement that the “Indiana Jones” movies are considered great entertainment. I always found them immensely dull, but maybe that’s just me. Mel Gibson’s “The Road Warrior” landed at #4, while the Wachowski Brothers kung fu’ed their way into #5 with “The Matrix”.

Also on the list were “Spider-Man 2″ (but not “Spider-Man”, curiously), “Kill Bill — Vol. 1″ (but not “Kill Bill — Vol. 2″, curiously), Bruce Lee’s “Enter the Dragon”, and the 1964 James Bond movie “Goldfinger”.
