In my humble opinion, if you’ve seen one movie about youngsters stranded in the middle of an ocean, you’ve seen them all. However, for some bizarre reason, that hasn’t stopped yours truly from taking a vested interest in Andrew Traucki’s “The Reef”. Sure, the plot sounds exactly like the one used in “Open Water”, but there’s something about the trailer that makes me want to see it. Could it be all of those pretty people, you ask? Could be. I never said I was very far above shallow. If you’re curious to know what we thought about the film, check out the review right here.
Anyway, here’s what the film is about:
For four backpackers it seemed like a dream come true. A week spent cruising the world’s most beautiful coral reef, on their own Yacht. But when their boat capsizes leaving them stranded on an overturned hull the dream turns into a nightmare. What should they do? Stay with a damaged hull that could sink at any moment or try to swim for land! Finally deciding to swim, the friends take to the water. As they close in on land a fin surfaces and with it the realization that they are being stalked by a deadly fifteen foot white pointer shark. Will any of them make the swim, or will the sea take what it wants?
“The Reef” nibbles at your extremities on July 19th, 2011.
