No surprise here, really, but Disney is already moving forward with a fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, even as new director Rob Marshall readies the fourth entry, “On Stranger Tides” for its Summer release.
Writer Terry Rossio, who had a hand in writing all four “Pirates” film so far with co-writer Ted Elliott (among many other writers who came and went through the years), will be penning the first draft of the fifth movie by his little lonesome. Of course, that only means that by the time the fifth movie is ready to move into production, a half dozen other writers will probably have taken a crack at it here and there, which is usually how these big-budget Hollywood studio movies usually work anyhow.
But the big news, of course, is that Disney is already at work on a fifth “Pirates” movie, with Johnny Depp set to reprise Jack Sparrow for the fifth time. Depp isn’t “locked” into the sequel yet, but there’s a deal in place for him to make it happen pretty quickly.
