“I am Number Four” and “Eagle Eye” director DJ Caruso is currently in talks to helm the end-of-the-world sci-fi drama “Invertigo”, presumably because Roland “master of Earth disaster” Emmerich was too busy doing other things.
The script, from “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” writer Ehren Kruger, concerns a NASA satellite that crash lands in New York City, creating something called a “reverse-G vortex”, where gravity is inverted, with the fate of the Earth at stake if a mission to stop it fails.
Sheesh. New York City. Am I right? If it’s not one thing, it’s aliens. Or giant radioactive dinosaurs.
Caruso will direct the film for Sony Pictures and producer Neal Moritz. Of course, where this fits in with Caruso’s recent attachment to the comic book movie “Preacher” is anybody’s guess, though you gotta figure this has more of a mainstream appeal than a movie about vampires and God based on an ultra-violent comic book. But hey, I’ve been wrong before.
Caruso was also supposed to direct “Y: The Last Man” with his “Eagle Eye” and “Disturbia” star Shia LaBeouf for the longest time. That is, he was supposed to direct, until he wasn’t anymore. In Hollywood, that’s call next week.
