The “Fast and Furious” franchise is getting to be like Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, but instead of loading up on mutants, the film is loading up on really cool actors.
You already have the old standbys like Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Dwayne Johnson. The seventh installment in the franchise has now added Ronda Rousey, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham, along with Tony Jaa. Now you can add Djimon Hounsou to that list.
As with previous casting notices for the film, there are no details about what role the former “Gladiator” star will be playing in the movie, but I am assuming it will either involve racing around in vehicles or looking buff as he’s menacing our heroes.
Statham is already scheduled to play the bad guy, and the action is expected to take place in and around Los Angeles as Statham’s character seeks vengeance on the good guys for the death of his brother in the last “Fast and Furious” movie.
James Wan, low-budget horror movie genius, is taking over the big-budget film. That, actually, might be the most intriguing aspect of the movie. Wan is known for very practical effects movies utilizing a very low-fi approach to his moviemaking and stories, and he’s stepping into a franchise that went from street racing to ensemble caper films to downright superhero movie.
“Fast and Furious 7” is currently in production and is scheduled to open next year.
