Now that she’s leaving the good Doctor behind after this latest season, Gillan will be looking for bigger and better things to continue her career.
Up first: the female lead in the supernatural horror film “Oculus”, which will find Gillan playing “a woman whose life was destroyed as a child after her parents were murdered and brother was pegged with the crime, even though she believes the crime was committed by a supernatural force. Ten years later, the brother is ready to move on but the sister is determined to prove that something else murdered their parents.”
Mike Flanagan, who directed last year’s well-received indie horror movie “Absentia” (read our Todd Rigney’s review of that title here), will helm “Oculus”. Back in 2006, Flanagan directed a short film called “Oculus: Chapter 3 – The Man with the Plan”. I’m guessing it’s all part of the same story, though that one was apparently about a man who “sets out to prove an antique mirror is haunted.”
This isn’t the first genre outing for Gillan. Besides “Doctor Who”, she recently co-starred in the monster movie “Outcast” (you can read a review of that here). I wonder if the “supernatural force” that Gillan’s character has to battle in the movie will involve a mirror…
