Ever since “Iron Man 2”, which in reality hasn’t been all that long, there have been subtle rumblings about the possibility of a “War Machine” movie. And why not, with “Thor”, “The Avengers”, “X-Men: First Class”, “Hulk”, and “Captain America” all rolling along, and recent news about a “Black Panther” adaptation (not to mention “Iron Man 3”), Marvel seems intent on making movies out of pretty much every title on their roster. I still have dreams about good “Punisher” and “Daredevil” films. “War Machine” would see Don Cheadle reprise his role, but there hasn’t been much forward motion on the project, until now.
In an interview with MTV at the Sundance Film Festival (while hyping his new film “The Guard”), Cheadle said that the studio has hired a writer for “War Machine”, though he neglected to mention whether or not he knows who it is. He also said that neither War Machine, nor his human counterpart James Rhodes, will appear in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”, calling his character a “lone wolf”.
