While doing the promo rounds for his new comedy “The Guard”, Don Cheadle updated fans (via Collider) on the status of his comic book projects. Most notably, he believes “Iron Man 3″ (with Shane Black in the driver’s seat in place of Jon Favreau) will “probably” start shooting sometime in February of 2012, which would be more than enough time for the film to meet its scheduled 2013 release date.
As for “The Avengers”, Cheadle is glad he won’t be reprising his War Machine role in the Joss Whedon film:
I have a contract to be in The Avengers but I’m glad they haven’t exercised that option yet. I need some down time.
It’s for the best. With The Black Widow and Hawkeye already onboard as second tier heroes, the Marvel super team doesn’t need focus being taken away to yet another character that isn’t Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, and Captain America.
As for that long-rumored “War Machine” movie, well, Cheadle knows as much as we do:
…there’s talk of a War Machine spinoff, which I guess, unless I get recast, I would probably do.
Heh. Good one, Don.
