Donnie Yen is the new One Armed Swordsman

News of a remake of the Shaw Brother’s blood spraying classic “One Armed Swordsman” have been circulating for a while now, but according to Asian Movie Pulse, production is set to start next month.

Peter Chan (“3 Extremes II”, “Warlords”) will direct the movie, and general badass Donnie Yen (“Ip Man”, “Hero”, “Blade II”) will take over the titular role and the primary sword handling duties. Yen is also on tap to choreograph the action, and Jing Chengwu is set to costar.
The report says

“Donnie is set to play a brutal and cruel character who is on the run, but undergoes a transformation by Jing Chengwu when he is captured.”

It does my heart good to know that Americans aren’t the only ones who insist on rehashing every movie ever made, but I do have to admit that this sounds like it is going to be pretty damn awesome.

I was kind of hoping to see a younger actor get the part. Donnie seems just a bit too old if you consider the one-armed swordsman was a student/disciple in both the original and “The Blade” remake

Student doesn't necesarily mean young. There were lots of people that didn't start their studies til later. I'm happy to see Donnie Yen finally getting the recognition he deserves. He's been around as long as Jet Li and yet most people don't even know who he is.
