The lead in Harald Zwart’s “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” is named Clary Fray, which is such a Young Adult teenage heroine name. Like Katniss Everdeen. I’d like to see a YA heroine name Pam. Just once. “Hey, Pam, you gonna save the world?” “You bet your ass, Doug!” See, because the male hero would be named Doug. It would be Pam and Doug versus the world! Or Janet and Greg. Henrietta and Kyle. I could go on all day, but then you’d probably be bored.

Anyways, check out the latest action-packed trailer for “The Mortal Instruments”, the first of what the studio is hoping will launch a whole new franchise that you crazy kids will throw all of your disposable income at. It looks pretty good, though the whole “mundane” thing is a tad lame.

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

“The Mortal Instruments” stars Lena Headey, Lily Collins, Kevin Zegers, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand, Jared Harris, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, Aidan Turner, and CCH Pounder.

Battlin’ demons this August 23, 2013.
