The director of “Source Code” (and “Moon” before that) has come onboard an action movie based on the true-life story of James Bond author Ian Fleming.
Jones’ untitled movie will be based on the non-fiction book “Ian Fleming, The Man Behind James Bond” by author Andrew Lycett. The film will follow Fleming as he “traveled the globe and masterminded real-life top-secret operations, helping supply inspiration for this famous creation, before and during World War II as a naval intelligence officer.”
Says Jones about his famous literary subject:
Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes. He witnesses true heroism first-hand. And he saw the evil men could do. Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?
I’m guessing it ended when James Bond became a suave unkillable superspy for her Majesty’s Secret Service, but hey, I could be wrong. Of course, that’s probably not going to stop Jones and company from going a tad further than the, ahem, “truth” will allow, especially since Fleming’s estate has A-okay the film.
Jones is currently casting, and will direct for K5 International.
