Well, it’s not The Hulk, but it’s close.

Paramount Pictures announced today that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has officially signed on to play the mythical Greek hero in “Hercules”. The movie will be based on the Radical Comics comic book series “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, which takes a more grounded, gritty approach on the hero and found the titular badass fighting mercenary wars in faraway countries with a band of like-minded individuals.

Johnson was previously attached to the role since February of this year, but this is your official confirmation of the casting. Production on the movie is set to kick off in early 2013 with Brett Ratner, also long attached, directing.

Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the screenplay, based on Steve Moore’s two limited series comic books. Peter Berg is co-producing.

Well in the comics he’s very tanned. And besides I didn’t see complaints about Rosario Dawson playing Persephone in Percy Jackson so why not?

two things about that is that no one knows or cares what a percy jackson is and two HERCULES is a huge character. older than anything on film these days so a sticking a lil more to proper casting can go a lot farther than just inserting a cheap name of the day action hero.
