Dwayne Johnson and Brett Ratner’s “Hercules” (one of two Hercules movies on the way in 2014, the other being Renny Harlin’s “Hercules 3D”) has added its first castmember since Johnson became officially attached earlier in the year.
Norwegian actor Aksel Hennie has joined the cast, and will play Tydeus, described as “a warrior devoted to Hercules who wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps.”
Remind me never to invite the dude for a sleepover.
Ratner and Johnson’s version of Hercules, based on the Radical Comics “Hercules: The Thracian Wars”, will posit Herc as “not the son of Zeus but rather a mortal with a fearsome reputation. He leads a team of mercenaries on a job where all ominously is not what it appears.” It will also ditch the character’s supernatural traits/history for a grittier approach.
Hennie’s latest film, “Headhunters” was recently released in limited release Stateside. That film also starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau of “Game of Thrones” fame.
