Dwight Yoakam, Three Others Saddling up for The Lone Ranger

Dwight Yoakam, along with three others, are in negotiations to play a killer cowboy in Disney’s “The Lone Ranger”. Yoakam would play “Butch Cavendish, leader of the Cavendish gang and the pic’s primary villain.” This wouldn’t exactly be the first time the former country singer-turned-actor has played a Western bad guy. He played one mean gringo in the silly “Bandidas” (below) not all that long ago.

Besides Yoakam, also in talks to join the Western reboot are Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale and Helena Bonham Carter. Pepper, last seen being recognizable as Lucky Ned Pepper in “True Grit”, will play a good guy this time around; he’s in talks to play Captain J. Fuller, the leader of the seventh cavalry. “The Pacific’s” Dale (though to me he’ll always be Jack Bauer’s ill-fated would-be son-in-law in “24”) will play Dan Reid, the Lone Ranger’s older brother and leader of the Texas Rangers at war with Yoakam’s Cavendish brood.

And Bonham Carter is in talks to play “the colorful madam of a local brothel.” What else would the colorful Bonham Carter play?

The foursome will join Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as Tonto. Previous cast additions include Tom Wilkinson as a railroad tycoon and Ruth Wilson as the Lone Ranger’s love interest.
