When “Grindhouse” was released in 2007 I heard more about the awesome fake trailers that appeared between the two films than I did about “Death Proof” or “Planet Terror”, and for good reason. Everyone I know agreed that if these were real movies, we would be psyched. All sorts of rumors and rumblings that this one or that one was going to be made into a full-length feature followed the release, but they never seemed to go anywhere.
Well, now it is 2010, and on the 3rd of September, when the Robert Rodriguez directed “Machete” finally hits screens everywhere, the first of those four fake movies will become very real. On a personal level, I’m excited about this development. I love motorcycles with machineguns mounted on them, and giant dudes with lots of knives. That’s just how I roll.
I’m also excited about the news that Eli Roth still plans to bring his trailer from “Grindhouse”, the holiday themed slasher “Thanksgiving”, to the big screen. Out of the four it was the most memorable. Who can forget the cheerleader trampoline stabbing? He told Cinemablend
I’ve been working on the script with my co-writer, Jeff Rendell, who plays the pilgrim in the trailer. And it’s me imitating Jeff’s voice [for the narration]. But Jeff has been working. I said that his deal is he has to work on the script while I’m promoting The Last Exorcism, and as soon as I’m done in mid-September he’s going to fly to California, we’re going to sit down, and bang out the script.
The project may be in the early stages of development, but that’s good news for horror fans. If you haven’t seen Roth’s trailer, here it is. If you have, here it is to watch again.
