Elite Squad’s Padilha to Direct Terrorist Thriller
Untitled Jose Padilha WB Movie — By Nix on May 19, 2008
Fans of Brazilian director Jose Padilha’s “Elite Squad” won’t have to wait long to see Padilha tackle a subject matter just as intense as “Squad”, and set in around the same world — or thereabouts. Warner Bros. has announced that Padilha, still riding high off the commercial and critical success of “Squad”, has signed on to direct a terrorist thriller for the WB. The film originally went by the title of “A Willing Patriot”, but that has been scrapped in favor of another, as-yes-unannounced title.
Variety has more:
Originally developed at WB under the title “A Willing Patriot,” the currently untitled drama revolves around an American federal agent who goes undercover in South America’s dangerous so-called tri-border area — where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet — in an attempt to dismantle a terrorist-funding network.
The script for the thriller is by Jason Keller, and the WB plans on giving the film every chance of success, including attaching “a major” American and Latin actor in the two leading roles.
