Ellen Page as Boltie in James Gunn’s Super is Just So, So Wrong

James Gunn’s “Super” is like Matthew Vaughn’s “Kick Ass”, minus the big budget and desperate need to be too cool for school. Gunn’s “Super” is just so utterly wrong that if you even have the slightest bit of “wrongness” in you, you should be lapping this film up. It’s also why the movie isn’t going to get much airplay, since it’s bound to be too disturbing for your average moviegoer. But in a good way. Or, er, wrong way. Look, this latest clip (via IO9) from the movie should just about convince you that you either HAVE to see this movie or you don’t wanna come anywhere near it.

When sad-sack loser Frank sees his ex-addict wife willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer, he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie, the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt!

Starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Gregg Henry, Michael Rooker, Andre Royo, Sean Gunn, Stephen Blackehart and directed by James Gunn.

Boltie strikes April 1, 2011.
