Elodie Yung Playing Jinx in G.I. Joe 2

Apparently when they said only Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, and Duke would be back for Jon Chu’s “G.I. Joe” sequel, “Cobra Strikes”, what they really meant was, they were going to dump everyone else … and then introduce a bunch of new characters to the roster. Personally, I would have just liked to see more of Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, but no one asked, so whatever. (I still have no idea how they’re going to swing Joseph Gordon-Levitt not coming back as Cobra Commander. I mean, the title has “Cobra” in it. How are you going to keep Cobra Commander out of it?)

Anyways, besides Dwayne Johnson coming onboard as Roadblock, a new machinegun-toting Joe, you can now add French actress Elodie Yung (“District 13: Ultimatum” and the upcoming “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” remake”) to the list. Yung will be playing a ninja character named Jinx, and is apparently one of many ninjas being added to the sequel.

Here is Jinx’s fictional bio:

Jinx is one of only a handful of G.I. Joe Team members whose real name is top secret. She has been studying and competing in several forms of martial arts since she was seven. She grew up in Los Angeles, California, and is a Bryn Mawr graduate. On a vacation trip to Japan, she discovered her familial ties to a ninja clan known as the Arashikage, and was officially initiated into the clan. She was then recruited by Snake-Eyes, a fellow ninja and member of the G.I. Joe Team. She has since underwent training with the Blind Master, a ranking ninja sensei, and studied the seven silent forms, including the “Eye That Pierces”, the “Iron Hand” and the “Heart That Waits”.

Gotta admit, Yung (below) looks tailor made for the role.

Expect more names, and characters, to be added as the Paramount film chugs toward a late 2011 start date for an expected Summer 2012 release date.

YAY! I used to own the Jinx action figure, I hope they give her a red ninja suit like the figure, and not just a boring black leather batman looking get up like the last movie, YAWN! RED COSTUME PLEASE!!! Or….I will have another geek-fit!

Jinx was in the animated G.I. Joe:The Movie. She was an okay character as was Roadblock. I hope that they add some other cooler characters into the mix. Since the characters all had their own look and dress the black costumes, while their funtion was cool, were very bland. It took away from the instant recognition of the characters. As for Levitt not returning, that is an easy enough fix. Cobra Commander wears a mask and has a snake like voice! Anyone can play that character! Besides his rendition, as well as almost every other character in the first film, sucked!
While I’m not a fan of Channing Tatum as Duke, with a new Cobra Commander, Grittier script and the addition of some cool new characters, this may not be so bad.

I’m in total agreement with you. This new casting and a grittier script that still has some humor from the reactions to the situations would definitely make a better movie. I think they need to go the A-team route with the action and humor but slightly toned down. I am jut hoping for a good Destro too since it seems as Christopher Eccleston wont be back either. I think Luke Goss would work in the part.

He definately fits the look. He can pull off the action sequences too. Good call! Who knows, maybe Destro won’t be returning?! I have some conflicting feelings about this new one. In one regard I’d like to see a more reality based film. However, with Cobra Commander, Baroness and Destro not confirmed to return, Serpentor and his crew including my all time favorite, Nemesis would be kick ass!!!

HELL YES!!! Cobra La would rock. They should really take a look at “Resolute” and the current comics to see how to do this right. NEMESIS ENFORCER!!!! Take them away!! Did you know that Burgess Meredith (Micky from Rocky, and The Penguin in the 60’s Batman) did Golobulous’ voice?

          • Juggernaut

No. I didn’t know that. I just thought that the Nemesis Enforcer was awesome when I was younger. Other characters that I hope that they bring in for the JOES:
            Flint
Low-Light (Kevin McKidd would be perfect!)
            Beach Head
            Lady Jay
            Wet Suit

            And, besides Cobra-La, for COBRA:
            Xamot and Tomax
            The Dreadnocks
            Scrap-Iron
            Firefly

Gerard Butler for Flint, Scott adkins for Tomax and Xamot (I originally had Jude Law or Christian Bale), Chris eades (csi) or Nathan Fillion as Beachead. Nathan Jones as Nemesis Enforcer, Jason Isaacs or Mark Strong as Serpentor, and Michael Wincott as Golobulous (ok so ”m stretching on that last one but I couldn’t think of anyone else).

            Sent on the go.
