Apparently when they said only Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, and Duke would be back for Jon Chu’s “G.I. Joe” sequel, “Cobra Strikes”, what they really meant was, they were going to dump everyone else … and then introduce a bunch of new characters to the roster. Personally, I would have just liked to see more of Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, but no one asked, so whatever. (I still have no idea how they’re going to swing Joseph Gordon-Levitt not coming back as Cobra Commander. I mean, the title has “Cobra” in it. How are you going to keep Cobra Commander out of it?)
Anyways, besides Dwayne Johnson coming onboard as Roadblock, a new machinegun-toting Joe, you can now add French actress Elodie Yung (“District 13: Ultimatum” and the upcoming “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” remake”) to the list. Yung will be playing a ninja character named Jinx, and is apparently one of many ninjas being added to the sequel.
Here is Jinx’s fictional bio:
Jinx is one of only a handful of G.I. Joe Team members whose real name is top secret. She has been studying and competing in several forms of martial arts since she was seven. She grew up in Los Angeles, California, and is a Bryn Mawr graduate. On a vacation trip to Japan, she discovered her familial ties to a ninja clan known as the Arashikage, and was officially initiated into the clan. She was then recruited by Snake-Eyes, a fellow ninja and member of the G.I. Joe Team. She has since underwent training with the Blind Master, a ranking ninja sensei, and studied the seven silent forms, including the “Eye That Pierces”, the “Iron Hand” and the “Heart That Waits”.
Gotta admit, Yung (below) looks tailor made for the role.
Expect more names, and characters, to be added as the Paramount film chugs toward a late 2011 start date for an expected Summer 2012 release date.
