Engaging E3 Trailer for Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider

Over the past few weeks, my head has been shoved pretty far up Max Payne’s grizzled ass. A lot of my free time has been devoted to working my way through “Max Payne 3″, a game that has actually rekindled my love for the medium. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to “playing” an action movie, and I’m thoroughly addicted to the hyper-nerdy adrenaline rush I get from it.

I’m hoping Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming “Tomb Raider” packs the same kind of punch. I haven’t played a Lara Croft game in ages, so I’m curious to see how the company handles the reboot. Since I don’t have a particular attachment to the character, the fact that she’s been completely revamped means nothing to me. However, as soon as someone transforms Guybrush Threepwood into Johnny Depp, we’re going to have problems.

Here’s the plotline for adventurer’s latest adventure:

Fresh from the academy and in search of lost relics, a 21-year-old Lara Croft journeys to an island off the coast of Japan aboard the Endurance, a salvage vessel helmed by Captain Conrad Roth. Before anchoring at bay, the ship is cloven in two by an unforeseen storm leaving Lara separated from any other survivors and washed ashore. She must endure physical and emotional torture in order to survive the island.

Square Enix will unleash “Tomb Raider” for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on March 15th, 2012. Have a look at 2012 E3 “Crossroads” trailer embedded below. Warning: Those of you who like their Lara Crofts impossibly busty will not be happy.

Author: Todd Rigney

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at) beyondhollywood.com.

Nice enough trailer with the cutscenes, but I didn’t see much actual gameplay. I need to see how the gameplay looks before I actually will plop my money down for a game.

    The game looks amazing.

Do you think they called it “Tomb Raider” because they thought it would sell more copies that way? Also, I am extremely sick of “gritty reboots…”
