As far as I can tell from this English trailer for Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki (“My Neighbor Totoro”, “Princess Mononoke”), Ponyo is some kind of creature from the ocean who happens to look like a cute and precocious little girl whose destiny is to save the world by, er, running on the backs of whales. Lots and lots of whales. Hey, it’s Japanese animation, it doesn’t have to make sense. Check out the first English trailer for Miyazaki’s “Ponyo”, set to be released by Disney, below.
From the Academy Award®-winning director and world-renowned Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki comes PONYO, a story inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Little Mermaid.” Already a box-office success in Japan, the story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by NOAH CYRUS) and her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent, including CATE BLANCHETT, MATT DAMON, TINA FEY, FRANKIE JONAS, CLORIS LEACHMAN, LIAM NEESON, LILY TOMLIN and BETTY WHITE.
The English version will feature the voices of Noah Lindsey Cyrus, Frankie Jonas, Liam Neeson, Tina Fey, Cate Blanchett, and Matt Damon. Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
