Daniel Lee has made quite the career for himself directing historical epics. His previous efforts, “14 Blades” and “Three Kingdoms”, are pretty good movies, though you must possess an appreciation for action-packed period pieces loaded with large-scale battles to truly enjoy them. Continuing in this tradition is Lee’s “White Vengeance”, which stars Leon Lai, Anthony Wong, Liu Yi-Fei, Jordan Chan, and Zhang Han-Yu. That’s a hell of a cast. I must say that the damned thing looks pretty good, and this is coming from someone who feels this sort of motion picture has been done to death. Leave it to Lee to make me eat my words. Here’s hoping this one tastes good.
Here’s an epic synopsis for this epic actioner:
In the late Qin Dynasty, rebels rose and the nation fell into chaos. LIU BANG (Leon Lai) and XIANG YU (Shaofeng Feng), serving under KING HUAI, were the leaders of the rebellious army. Liu Bang and Xiang Yu became sworn brothers in the battles. They had conquered the heartland of Qin Dynasty and caused its destruction.
However, King Huai realized that Liu and Xiang were too powerful and he felt threatened by them. So he formed a plot to turn Liu and Xiang against each other.
The once sworn brothers now held resentment towards each other. Xiang Yu planned to kill Liu Bang at a banquet held in Hong Men. In the banquet, who will emerge as the winner?
“White Vengeance” opens in Hong Kong on November 24th, 2011.
