ESPN’s NFL Kick Off is Apparently a Fan of The Princess Bride

How many “Princess Bride” quotes can you put into a 30-minute show (plus commercials)? A lot, as it turns out. But who would have thunk that it would show up on … ESPN’s NFL Kick Off show?

Inconceivable!

But that’s what the show’s co-hosts Mark Schlereth, Trey Wingo and Teddy Bruschi did this weekend, tossing in as many “Princess Bride” quotes and references as they could in the 30-minute show. Not all of the references work, of course, but if you’re a fan of the Rob Reiner movie (based on a script by William Goldman, who adapted the story from his own book of the same name), there’s no denying that either the three co-hosts made a concerted effort to throw a shout-out to the movie, or whoever wrote the episode’s script is a big fan and slipped it in without them knowing.

I like to think these guys are smart enough that they knew what they were doing and weren’t just reading off a script. But hey, I’ve been wrong before.

Here’s the whole episode with all the “Princess Bride” shout-outs that someone compiled together and slapped on YouTube. As a big fan of the movie and of football, this just made me all kinds of giddy.
