EverQuest Movie Gets 300 Writer

EverQuest (2010) Movie — By Nix on October 9, 2007

I’m assuming that once you’ve been attached to a mega hit like “300″, you’re basically “in” with Hollywood. That’s probably what it feels like for Michael Gordon, one of the writers of “300″, who has just been handed first crack at the script for “EverQuest”, based on the multi-player fantasy role-playing game that first came online for nerds everywhere in 1999. In the game, players create a character they use to explore the world of Norrath, where they interact with other players or fight off creatures while going on quests for treasure. It’s very nerdish, and if you’ve played it, well, you’re probably a big ol nerd. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

More:

“EverQuest” was the most popular online role-playing game from 2000-04, before similar games such as “World of Warcraft” launched.

It’s also long been a major moneymaker for Sony, because in order to play, users must buy the game and pay a monthly fee to participate.

At its peak, title had more than 450,000 subscribers ponying up $10 a month to play.

As one of the most popular games of its type, “EverQuest” has garnered rapt attention from the fanboy blogosphere, particularly IGN, which first reported Gordon and Arad’s involvement.

Who pays $10 a month to play a game online? Then again, maybe this is one of the reasons why:

I have been playing EQ since 1999 and have always wanted to see a movie made about it. However there are so many great stories that can come from it, its hard to think which way a script writer will go with it. I am fearful that we will end up doing a story about a group of strangers that team up for to save the world from evil taking over and it will end up like one of those bad Dungeons and Dragon movies that have come out in the past couple of years. A better story line would be about the actual Norrath world and the fights between the Gods, where they use their devoted followers (ie. players) as pawns to carry out they will for chaos or order. Another great movie would be following the events of one of the best and baddest guilds throughout the server. EQ is all about discovering the unknown, exploring new lands in the hope of uncovering legendary treasured items and in the middle of all that — get to fight some awesome creatures (dragon, giants, and gods). Well back to EQ :)

laex i think your idea is great and ican get beautiful images of recreated rallying at zone lines in full godzilla+ 300 imagery… ie innoruuk turning to say something dastardly before running into lesser faydark then laughing maniacal through the chasm that connects the two. it better not suck or they wont ever hear the end of it.

Based on facial features alone, I would consider casting Ali Larter of Heroes fame as Firiona Vie.
