It’s hard to fault Robert DeNiro. He’s still putting in the hours when most others would have retired, and at that age it’s hard to do the kind of demanding work that once propelled him to greatness. DeNiro’s latest picture, “Everybody’s Fine”, looks like an average family comedy, one that pads the back end of his filmography. Even the Wikipedia entry sounds average: “A widower decides on a whim to take a road trip to reconnect with each of his grown kids, discovering that their lives are far from perfect.” But I hope that DeNiro still has some surprises left.
“Everybody’s Fine” is actually based on the 1990 Italian film by Giuseppe Tornatore. It’s written and directed by Kirk Jones and costars Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale. The release date is December 4th, 2009.
