Hey, fans of horror remakes, check out the first trailer for Fede Alvarez’s “Evil Dead” reboot. Okay, it’s a bootleg trailer from New York Comic Con, and it’s got language and blood galore. Lots and lots of blood. From the looks of it, while 50% of the trailer looks exactly like the Sam Raimi original, they’ve cranked up the “realistic” blood and guts and gotten rid of almost all of the camp that the series is known for. Of course, most people forget that “The Evil Dead” by Raimi was not campy at all; the series got goofy after the first movie, so kids who never saw the original, but grew up on part 2 and “Army of Darkness” might be a tad surprise by the straight-faced approach that’s apparently being taken here in the remake.
In any case, “Evil Dead” (officially sans “The”, apparently) stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore, and finds five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin in the woods, where they encounter supernatural evil. Hmm, sounds familiar. Kind of ironic that this is coming after Joss Whedon’s “The Cabin in the Woods”, which was itself somewhat built on Raimi’s original.
The non-bootleg movie arrives April 12, 2013.
