With its male and female lead cast, Fede Alvarez’s “Evil Dead” remake is now adding two more poor saps to be ripped apart by evil demon types for the pleasure of the masses. Er, I mean, it’s added three more pretty people to its cast. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
In “The Evil Dead”, Levy will play Mia, a young woman struggling with sobriety who heads to a remote cabin with her brother (Fernandez) and a group of friends, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead and, as they say, shenanigans ensue.
Joining Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez will be Jessica Lucas, most famous for being one of the victims of “Cloverfield” and who can soon be seen fronting her own TV show “Cult” on the CW. Of the three new additions, Lucas’ role sounds like the most important one. She’ll play “the best friend of the girl going through withdrawal (Levy’s female lead character) who is also a nurse.”
Meanwhile, also joining the horror redo are Elizabeth Blackmore and Lou Taylor Pucci (“Carriers”). Blackmore (below, with Pucci), who had a recurring role in the syndicated action-adventure fantasy show “Legend of the Seeker”, will play the fiance of Fernandez’s character.
The remake, from producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell, will feature Alvarez in his feature-film directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with Diablo Cody. The film will shoot this April in New Zealand.
